Colman Conroy

COLMAN CONROY was born and raised in Noe Valley, a once working-class neighborhood in the heart of San Francisco. He watched as the neighborhood evolved from a tight-knit, blue-collar community to an affluent, trendy enclave of working professionals, impacted through the years by the Vietnam War, the AIDS pandemic, and the tech boom.

Twelve years of Catholic education spurred a love of reading and writing. While Philip Roth, Don DeLillo and Richard Ford are some of his favorite authors, from an early age he enjoyed crime fiction including classic detectives like Sherlock Holmes and Philip Marlowe. He also enjoys modern crime writers like Tana French and Lawrence Block.

Colman received a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was an All-American Track Athlete. He obtained an MBA from the University of San Francisco and, keeping with the Jesuits, a teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University.

His eclectic work experience includes advertising management and nonprofit communication. In his advertising career, his clients included Coors Banquet Beer, Sega Genesis, Dockers, and a very early version of Amazon.com. As a communications professional, Colman has written op-eds, letters to the editor and informed articles that have appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, and other publications. For the past ten years he has taught English and American History to middle and high school students.

Colman's diverse life experience and love of San Francisco are evident in each character he creates. Colman continues to live in Noe Valley. No Special Hurry is his first novel.
